A pair of blue and white barbed-rim dishes - Early Kangxi
Each with shallow cavettos rising to the flaring lappet shaped rim, well painted in the centre with a medallion enclosing a foliate lotus blossom within a lotus shaped cartouch reserved on cash diaper ground, the sides with incised panels decorated with lotus sprays, the exterior sides with peony blossoms, underglaze blue six-character Xuande marks within double circles (minor damage). 27.5cm (10¾in) wide. (2). Estimate: £1,000 - 1,500
Footnote: These dishes can be dated to the early Kangxi period based on the bold heavy style of calligraphy of the underglaze-blue six-character Xuande marks within double circles, see Harry Garner, Oriental Blue and White, London, 1970, p.76.
